Moroccan Traditional Musical Instruments

In Marrakech,  in the heart of the souks, the craftsmen furnish many of Morocco's folkloric groups with their instruments. Among them are  the bendir, round drum, the "derbouka" and "taarejas" as well as the famous "djembe, clay or ceramic tam-tams, the Oud, the Moroccan lyre, the "guembri" a kind of guitar , the "def" , a square skin covered drum from Zagoura . The wooden flute knows as the "anay" is the most widely used musical instrument in Morocco.
The musicians are faithful customers, dancers or "chikhates"else in the country.  who perform at parties and marriages,  the Gnaouas fro the sub-Sahara, the Aklas of Zagora, the Berbers of Ourika, particularly those from Alouach.  They come from the four corners of the Moroccan Kingdom because such traditional manufacture does not  exist anywhere.
The string Instrument
Many craftsman are deeply involved in their production. the making of stringed instruments involves may steps.  For the guembri, for example, the craftsman hollow and sculpt poplar or fig tree wood. Using a "gadouma" a gouging tool, they burrow into the interior of the block.  For the string, they use goat guts of three or four thickness.
The percussion Instrument
the percussion instrument s are found in all kingdom's musical groups who preform at every type of event. Four types of skins are used: goat for larger instruments that require  a clear sound, lamb for the smaller instruments because the skin is more fragile , and finally camel or cow  for the large models that produce a heavier sound.
